It is Leilaniʻs desire for her work to raise awareness with regard to what it is like to live life as a largely institutionalized artist, with a dream, of one day having her own apartment. She wants people to know "what it is like inside."
This website is maintained by Leilaniʻs peer and sibling, who is also an artist. It is a part of a process of paying it forward. If someone has done you a good deed in terms of providing support, there is wisdom in making a commitment to helping another along their creative journey.
Video below by Michelleʻs sister, a travel snapshot of images of when their project went to Brooklyn. Michelleʻs story was told at Triskelion Arts, and her art was shown, guerrilla style also at MOMA as a part of the museum project. Beautiful comments about Michelleʻs work by a visitor to the installation at Triskelion Arts.
